Fatal Rollover Accident on Interstate 210 Claims Life of Cesar Guzman-Arredondo

San Bernardino, CA (June 16, 2024) – A tragic accident killed Cesar Guzman-Arredondo, a 26-year-old San Bernardino resident, on Sunday, June 16, 2024.

Accident Details: The accident occurred on Interstate 210, east of Waterman Avenue in San Bernardino. Guzman-Arredondo was a front-seat passenger in a Hyundai sedan. The sedan was traveling east. It overturned. Unfortunately, because he did not have his seat belt on, Guzman-Arredondo was ejected from the car and fell onto the road. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigation: The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is investigating the incident. The driver was arrested. As a personal injury lawyer, I find this accident raises several critical questions that need thorough investigation.

Driver Responsibility and Arrest: The driver’s arrest is a significant development in this case. Determining the cause of the arrest, whether it was due to driving under the influence, reckless driving, or another violation, will be crucial. Establishing the driver’s actions leading up to the accident will help identify negligence or criminal behavior.

Vehicle Safety and Ejection: The fact that Guzman-Arredondo was unrestrained and ejected from the vehicle is alarming. Investigating whether the seatbelt malfunctioned or if there were other safety failures in the 2022 Hyundai sedan is essential. Additionally, understanding why Guzman-Arredondo was not wearing a seatbelt and if the driver ensured that all passengers were properly restrained can shed light on potential negligence. Or, not wearing a seatbelt may have been Guzman-Arredondo’s personal choice. If so, although that decision can be regarded as negligence, his family may still be able to recover compensation under California’s comparative negligence laws.

Road Conditions and Vehicle Defects: Another critical aspect is examining the road conditions at the time of the accident and the state of the vehicle. Was there any debris or poor lighting that contributed to the rollover? Additionally, investigating whether the vehicle had any mechanical defects or recalls that could have played a role in the accident will be necessary to determine liability.

Wrongful Death: If the investigation provides evidence that negligence was the cause of the accident, Guzman-Arredondo’s family may be able to file a wrongful death claim to recover compensation for the loss of their loved one.

I offer my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Cesar Guzman-Arredondo during this difficult time.
