Woman Killed by Semi-Truck While Walking on I-15 in Washington County

Washington, UT (May 23, 2025) – A woman was struck and killed by a semi-truck early Friday morning while walking along Interstate 15 near mile marker 12, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.

Accident Details: The fatal incident occurred in the southbound lanes of I-15 near the Main Street exit in Washington. Authorities responded shortly after 8:30 a.m., confirming that a female pedestrian was struck by a semi-truck. No other vehicles were involved, and it remains unclear why the woman was on the highway at the time.

The crash forced a closure of southbound lanes at exit 12, causing significant traffic delays. By 11:30 a.m., all lanes had been cleared and reopened.

Legal Considerations: Pedestrian incidents on interstates are uncommon but often deadly due to the speed and size of commercial vehicles. Investigators will examine traffic camera footage, driver statements, and scene evidence to determine the events leading up to the collision. Questions about visibility, speed, and potential driver awareness may come into play.

While fault is not yet determined, the victim’s family may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim if any preventable factors contributed to the crash.

Ongoing Investigation: The Utah Highway Patrol continues to investigate. The woman’s identity has not been released, pending notification of next of kin. No charges or citations have been announced.

I extend my condolences to the loved ones of the victim during this difficult time.
