Long Beach, CA (August 1, 2025) — A woman was fatally struck by a vehicle Friday night while crossing the street at the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and 36th Street, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
Incident Details: The collision occurred at approximately 9:05 p.m. when a vehicle traveling southbound on Atlantic Avenue struck the pedestrian. Long Beach Fire Department personnel pronounced the woman dead at the scene. The driver remained on site and cooperated with investigators. Authorities say speed, distracted driving, and impairment are not factors. Witnesses reported that the victim may have been walking a dog at the time, though that detail has not yet been confirmed.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner will release the woman’s identity once the next of kin are notified.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: While the initial investigation found no evidence of impairment or speeding on the driver’s part, the driver’s interests will likely assess roadway lighting, driver visibility, and the pedestrian’s position within the intersection to determine fault.
Pending the investigation, the victim’s family has grounds for a wrongful death claim to recover funeral expenses, loss of support, and other damages.
My heartfelt condolences go out to the family and loved ones of the woman killed in this tragic incident.
