Woman Airlifted After Rollover Crash on Highway 1 Near Watsonville

Watsonville, CA (April 7, 2025) — A 70-year-old woman sustained significant injuries Sunday evening in a two-vehicle collision on Highway 1 near Mar Monte Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

Incident Details: CHP reports that the crash occurred around 5:52 p.m. on April 6. The woman was driving a silver 2017 Ford Fusion northbound when a 21-year-old Watsonville man, operating a gray 2016 Lexus IS350, struck her vehicle from behind for reasons that remain under investigation.

The force of the impact caused the Ford to overturn and come to rest between the right lane of northbound Highway 1 and the Mar Monte Avenue on-ramp. The woman was airlifted to a local hospital with major injuries. The Lexus driver sustained minor injuries.

The CHP urges anyone with information about the crash to contact their dispatch center to assist in the investigation.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: Authorities arrested the Lexus driver on suspicion of felony reckless driving causing bodily injury. While drugs or alcohol are not currently suspected, the ongoing investigation will determine whether speed, distraction, or other negligent behavior contributed to the crash.

If negligence is confirmed, the injured woman may also pursue a personal injury claim to recover medical expenses, lost income, and pain and suffering.

I extend our thoughts to the injured victim and her family during this difficult time.
