Woman Killed in Hit-and-Run Dump Truck Collision on Clairmont Road in Brookhaven

Brookhaven, Georgia (October 21, 2025) — A 20-year-old woman was tragically killed Tuesday afternoon when a dump truck struck her in a crosswalk on Clairmont Road and then fled the scene, according to the Brookhaven Police Department.

Incident Details: Police said the crash occurred near the Clairmont Road and Dresden Drive intersection as the woman and her boyfriend were crossing the street in a marked crosswalk. A cement-hauling dump truck traveling through the intersection struck the woman, leaving her with fatal injuries. Her boyfriend, who was not hit, was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation. His current condition has not been disclosed.

Witnesses described a chaotic and emotional scene as police closed the roadway to conduct their investigation. Officers later located the truck and its driver a short distance away, where the driver had been unloading materials. Authorities confirmed that the suspect was taken into custody after making partial admissions about the crash.

According to Lt. Travis Nguyen of the Brookhaven Police Department, “He knew he was involved in an accident.” Investigators say the driver knowingly left the scene after striking the victim.

Investigation: The Brookhaven Police Department is continuing to investigate the fatal hit-and-run. While speed and impairment have not yet been ruled out, officers said early evidence indicates that the truck driver was aware of the collision but chose not to stop. Surveillance footage from nearby businesses is being reviewed to determine the vehicle’s speed and trajectory.

The Georgia State Patrol’s Motor Carrier Compliance Division may also assist in verifying whether a private construction firm or a contracted company owned the dump truck. If it is confirmed that the truck was operating commercially, investigators will review maintenance records, safety certifications, and potential violations of Georgia’s commercial vehicle regulations.

Under Georgia law, any driver involved in a crash that results in injury or death is required to stop, render aid, and remain at the scene. Leaving the scene of a fatal collision constitutes a felony punishable by significant prison time.

Legal Considerations: The victim’s family may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim against the driver and the trucking company that owned or operated the vehicle. Civil liability could extend beyond the individual driver if evidence shows inadequate hiring, supervision, or safety compliance.

Pedestrian fatalities involving commercial trucks often raise questions about intersection safety, driver visibility, and speed enforcement, especially in urban areas like Brookhaven, where heavy equipment and pedestrians share close quarters.

I send my deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the young woman whose life was so tragically cut short. We also wish strength to her boyfriend and all those affected as they process this heartbreaking loss.
