Whitfield County, GA (May 15, 2025) – Three men — William West, Christopher Powell, and 68-year-old Manuel Mijango — were killed and two others were injured in a devastating multi-vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer on Interstate 75 in Northwest Georgia.
Incident Details: The fatal collision occurred around 2 p.m. on Wednesday in the southbound lanes of I-75 near mile marker 336 in Whitfield County. According to Georgia State Patrol, a tractor-trailer traveling in the middle lane failed to stop and crashed into four vehicles that were slowed due to traffic. The force of the impact caused a chain-reaction crash, including at least one vehicle catching fire. William West and Christopher Powell were in a Ford Ranger and died at the scene. Manuel Mijango, who was driving a Ford Econoline van, was transported to the hospital where he later died. Two additional people suffered injuries but are expected to survive.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: Georgia State Patrol continues to investigate the sequence of events leading to the crash. Authorities are working to determine whether speed, distraction, or impairment were factors in the truck driver’s failure to stop. No charges have been announced at this time.
