Ventura County Sheriff’s Deputy Injured in Moorpark Crash

MOORPARK, CA (October 22, 2025) — A Ventura County sheriff’s deputy was hospitalized Wednesday morning following a collision in Moorpark involving a patrol motorcycle and a pickup truck, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.

Accident Details: The crash happened around 8:43 a.m. at the intersection of Los Angeles Avenue and Millard Street, a busy stretch of State Route 118 used by many morning commuters. Sheriff’s Capt. Steve Michalec said deputies were dispatched to the area after learning that one of their own had been involved in a traffic collision.

The deputy had been riding a patrol motorcycle when it collided with at least one other vehicle, believed to be a Ford F-150 pickup, according to California Highway Patrol logs. Paramedics transported the deputy to a nearby hospital with moderate injuries. No other injuries were reported.

The crash prompted the closure of westbound lanes on Los Angeles Avenue between Spring Road and Millard Street while investigators documented the scene and cleared debris. CHP later announced that lanes reopened shortly after 11 a.m.

Investigation: The California Highway Patrol’s Moorpark office is leading the investigation into what caused the collision. Officers are gathering statements and reviewing roadway conditions to understand how the motorcycle and truck came into contact. They are also checking for speed, traffic flow, and line-of-sight concerns at the intersection.

Officials have not released additional details about the deputy’s condition or whether any citations will be issued. The department said updates will be provided once more information is available.

Legal Considerations: Crashes involving patrol vehicles raise complex questions about roadway safety and traffic awareness. Investigators will examine whether the deputy was responding to a call or traveling under routine patrol at the time, and whether the truck driver had adequate visibility when entering or crossing the intersection.

In cases where emergency vehicles or motorcycles are involved, reports from both law enforcement and insurance carriers help determine liability and whether roadway design or driver behavior played a contributing role. These findings can also lead to adjustments in local traffic control or training for officers who operate motorcycles in high-traffic zones.

We extend our hopes for a smooth and full recovery to the injured deputy.
