Highland, CA (October 15, 2025) – Two people were killed and another person seriously injured Wednesday afternoon in a violent head-on collision on Baseline Street.
Accident Details: Around 1:45 p.m., emergency crews were dispatched to the area of Baseline Street and McKinley Avenue following reports of a major collision. Investigators say a gray Infiniti G35, driven by a 24-year-old Highland man, was speeding east when it suddenly crossed into westbound lanes and struck a gray Mazda 3 head-on.
The impact was severe, killing both occupants of the Infiniti—the driver and a 21-year-old passenger from San Bernardino. The driver of the Mazda, a 26-year-old Highland man, sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Authorities said the Mazda driver had two dogs with him in the car, both of which were killed in the crash. A third vehicle nearby was hit by flying debris. It sustained minor vehicle damage.
Investigation: Investigators are examining several factors to determine what led to the Infiniti entering opposing lanes and colliding head-on with the Mazda. Their review will include:
- Speed and driver behavior. Officers will analyze skid marks, vehicle positions, and witness accounts to estimate how fast the Infiniti was traveling and whether reckless driving or loss of control contributed to the crash.
- Mechanical condition. Both vehicles will undergo inspection to rule out mechanical defects such as steering or brake failure that could have played a role.
- Toxicology reports. Standard testing will be performed to determine whether impairment may have been a contributing factor.
- Surveillance or dash-cam footage. Any available video from nearby businesses or vehicles will help verify the exact moment the Infiniti crossed into oncoming traffic.
Reconstruction specialists will map the roadway, document debris patterns, and assess the angles of impact to establish the sequence of events.
Legal Considerations: In California, motorists are required to operate their vehicles with reasonable care to avoid causing harm to others. Driving at excessive speeds or entering opposing lanes generally constitutes negligent behavior that endangers other motorist on the road.
Depending on the outcome of the investigation, the injured driver may be able to file a personal injury claim. This civil action can help recover compensation for losses such as medical expenses, lost wages, property damage, and pain and suffering.
I offer my deepest thoughts to all those affected by this accident.
