Two Injured in Fiery Crash on US 101 Near University Avenue in Palo Alto

Palo Alto, CA (May 27, 2025) – A multi-vehicle collision shut down all northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 101 near University Avenue on Memorial Day, sending two people to the hospital and leaving one car in flames.

Accident Details: The crash occurred around 2:27 p.m. on Monday, May 26, according to Officer Jovita Ojeda with the California Highway Patrol – Redwood City Office. Four vehicles were involved: a white Toyota RAV4, a blue Toyota Camry, a white Tesla, and a red Honda.

Authorities confirmed the Camry caught fire during the crash, but the driver was able to escape before flames fully engulfed the vehicle. The Camry driver and another individual sustained minor injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital. Officials have not yet released information on which vehicle the second injured person was in.

Traffic backed up as CHP shut down all northbound lanes of US 101 in the area. The highway reopened shortly after 4 p.m.

Legal Considerations: In crashes involving multiple vehicles and a car fire, investigators will likely look at speed, lane changes, and potential distracted driving. Any injured parties may consider filing a personal injury claim, especially if one or more drivers are found at fault. Damage to vehicles, medical expenses, and trauma from the incident may all factor into possible compensation.

Ongoing Investigation: CHP has not identified the cause of the crash and continues to investigate. Updates may be released once authorities determine liability and whether any citations or charges will follow.

I hope both injured individuals recover fully and thank first responders for their quick work in handling the scene safely.
