Petaluma, CA (July 1, 2025) – Two men were struck by a white Cadillac Escalade Tuesday afternoon while using a downtown crosswalk in Petaluma.
Accident Details: The crash occurred shortly before 1:30 p.m. on Petaluma Boulevard North between Western Avenue and B Street. One man was taken to a trauma center in critical condition, and the other was transported to a hospital. The driver remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
Petaluma Police Lt. Jeremy Walsh stated the driver of the Escalade was traveling at 20 to 25 mph and did not see the pedestrians. Preliminary findings suggest that speed, drugs, and alcohol were not factors in the crash.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: Police are still gathering facts to understand how the crash occurred. Key investigative steps likely include:
- Confirming whether flashing crosswalk lights were active at the time of the crash;
- Road conditions;
- Reviewing video surveillance from nearby businesses; and
- Taking witness statements to clarify the sequence of events.
Visibility, driver attention, and pedestrian movement will all play central roles in reconstructing the accident.
Depending on the investigation’s findings, the two injured pedestrians may have the right to pursue personal injury claims.
My thoughts are with the two men who were injured in this collision. I hope they receive the care and support they need.
