Ludlow, CA (March 11, 2025) — Two people lost their lives, and another was critically injured in a violent crash on westbound Interstate 40 early Tuesday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). CHP is actively investigating the incident.
Incident Overview: The crash occurred around 6:12 a.m., approximately three miles from the Crucero Road/Ludlow exit in San Bernardino County. A white semi-truck and a silver Dodge Caravan were involved.
Initial reports indicate that one vehicle struck the other, sending the semi-truck off the freeway and onto the right shoulder. The Dodge Caravan overturned multiple times before landing in a desert area beside the highway.
First responders from San Bernardino County Fire and CHP arrived quickly. Two passengers in the minivan were pronounced dead at the scene. A third person was airlifted by CHP helicopter to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs with serious injuries. Officials have not released the names of the victims or the status of their condition, pending family notification.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: CHP’s Barstow Office Authorities are working to determine what caused the crash. Their investigation includes reviewing the drivers’ actions, checking for possible mechanical failures, and evaluating whether road conditions, lighting, or visibility played a role.
Pending the outcome of the investigation, surviving family members of the deceased victims may have grounds to pursue wrongful death claims, seeking compensation for funeral costs, emotional suffering, and financial losses.
