Albuquerque, NM (July 20, 2025) – Two people were hospitalized following a crash involving a semi-truck on Sunday morning.
Accident Details: The accident occurred on westbound Interstate 40 near Rio Grande NW, close to the Big I interchange. The cause of the crash has not yet been determined. A burning car was pinned beneath the semi-truck. Firefighters extricated the victim, who was transported to the University of New Mexico Hospital.
Responders located another person pinned in their vehicle nearby. The second individual was also taken to the hospital.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: Investigators will work to reconstruct what happened. They will ask the following:
- How did the passenger vehicle end up beneath the trailer or truck body?
- Was traffic slowing or stopped?
- Did the truck driver have sufficient time and distance to react?
- Was the lighting sufficient?
Investigators will also look at dashcam footage, black box data from the semi, and witness statements to determine the cause of the crash.
Depending on the outcome of the investigation, the injured individuals may be able to bring personal injury claims.
I extend my thoughts to both injured individuals and wish them a fast recovery.
