EAST HEMPFIELD TOWNSHIP, PA (October 21, 2025) — Two people were hospitalized Tuesday morning following a serious multi-vehicle collision involving a dump truck on Route 30 in Lancaster County, according to officials with the Mountville Fire Company.
Accident Details: The crash occurred around 7:50 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of Route 30 near the Centerville Road exit. Authorities said a dump truck and two passenger vehicles were involved in the collision.
When emergency crews arrived, they found one vehicle lodged beneath the rear of the dump truck with an occupant trapped inside. Rescue teams used hydraulic tools to free the individual before transporting them to a nearby hospital. Another person was also taken for medical care, though the severity of the injuries has not yet been disclosed.
The crash prompted the closure of all eastbound lanes between the Mountville/Stoney Battery Road exit and the Route 741/Millersville/Rohrerstown exit while crews worked to remove debris and document the scene. Traffic was redirected to surface roads until all lanes reopened later in the morning.
Investigation: The East Hempfield Township Police Department and Pennsylvania State Police are reviewing the circumstances surrounding the collision. Investigators are gathering statements from witnesses and analyzing vehicle positions to determine what led to the crash.
Authorities have not released information on possible contributing factors such as speed, mechanical issues, or driver inattention. The dump truck and passenger vehicles sustained heavy front and rear-end damage, and towing crews were called to clear the roadway once evidence collection was complete.
Crash reconstruction specialists will examine impact patterns and braking distances to establish how the sequence of collisions occurred. Findings from their investigation will be used to determine if any citations or charges are appropriate.
Legal Considerations: Collisions involving commercial trucks can raise complicated questions about responsibility. Depending on the findings, liability may rest with a driver, a trucking company, or a maintenance contractor if faulty equipment or load issues played a part. Insurance coverage for these types of crashes can vary widely, especially when several vehicles are involved.
Those injured may face lengthy hospital stays and the disruption of normal routines. Documentation from first responders, medical providers, and investigators will be critical for anyone seeking to recover financial losses tied to the incident. Establishing what happened and who held responsibility helps ensure that injured parties are not left to manage those consequences alone.
We wish all who were hurt a full recovery and commend the emergency responders who acted quickly to assist those in need.
