Tetonia, Idaho (September 3, 2025) — A three-vehicle crash involving two commercial trucks and a motorhome closed Highway 33 between Newdale and Tetonia for more than six hours on Wednesday, according to the Idaho State Police.
Incident Details: Authorities reported that the crash occurred when a 22-year-old man from Tetonia, driving a 1998 Kenworth truck eastbound, crossed the center line. His truck struck a 2022 Ford motorhome traveling westbound, driven by a 64-year-old man from Orlando, Florida. The impact caused heavy debris to scatter across the roadway, striking another westbound vehicle — a 2003 Kenworth truck operated by a 67-year-old man from Waterville, Kansas. Both the 22-year-old truck driver and the motorhome driver were transported to a local hospital by Teton County Fire & Rescue with injuries that have not yet been disclosed. The second truck driver was not reported injured. Officials confirmed that all involved were wearing seatbelts during the collision.
The roadway was blocked for approximately six and a half hours as crews cleared debris and vehicles from the scene. Authorities noted that several bystanders stopped to provide aid before first responders arrived, and the crash remains under investigation.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: Crossing the center line is often considered a strong indicator of negligence, but investigators will need to determine why the 22-year-old truck driver veered into oncoming traffic. Possible causes under review could include distraction, fatigue, mechanical failure, or impairment. When commercial trucks are involved in serious crashes, liability can extend beyond the driver to include the trucking company, maintenance providers, or even the manufacturer if a defect contributed to the incident.
The injured drivers may face extensive recovery, particularly the motorhome driver, who was struck head-on by a commercial truck. Even with seatbelts, head-on collisions often result in severe injuries such as broken bones, spinal damage, or traumatic brain injuries. Victims may have the right to pursue compensation for medical bills, lost wages, and long-term suffering. In commercial vehicle cases, attorneys often investigate whether companies complied with federal trucking regulations regarding driver rest periods, weight limits, and vehicle inspections. A failure in any of these areas could establish broader liability and strengthen the victims’ claims.
Because the crash involved commercial trucks and a motorhome, multiple avenues of legal action may be available. Injured victims could pursue personal injury claims to hold the trucking company accountable and for damages arising from the multi-vehicle nature of the collision. Sorting out responsibility in such cases often requires accident reconstruction experts and a thorough review of company records to ensure that all liable parties are identified.
Our thoughts are with the injured drivers and their families, and we wish them strength as they recover from this serious crash.
