Osceola County, FL (June 17, 2025) — A crash involving a semi-truck carrying hazardous material shut down Interstate 4 for several hours Monday afternoon near ChampionsGate, just south of Walt Disney World, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Incident Details: The crash occurred near mile marker 59 in the westbound lanes of I-4. Florida Highway Patrol reports that a Ford Focus was traveling in the center-outside westbound lane, adjacent to a semi-truck hauling fertilizer, a hazardous material, when the left side of the car struck the right side of the truck.
The impact caused the semi to veer off the road and into the median, where it overturned and caught fire. Both the 29-year-old driver of the Focus, from New Jersey, and the 59-year-old truck driver, from Polk City, escaped without injury and remained at the scene.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: FHP has not yet determined which vehicle departed its lane prior to the impact, and the investigation is ongoing. Authorities will likely evaluate whether either driver was distracted, speeding, or failed to maintain proper lane discipline.
Pending the outcome of the investigation, the injured Focus driver may have grounds for a personal injury or property damage claim to recover any associated medical costs, lost wages, and repair costs.
