Truck Driver Killed After Being Run Over by Own Semi in Long Beach

Long Beach, CA (June 18, 2025) — A truck driver was tragically killed Wednesday morning after being struck and run over by his vehicle in a rear-end collision involving two semi-trucks on Pier T Avenue in Long Beach.

Incident Details: The fatal incident occurred around 6:40 a.m. in the 2600 block of Pier T Avenue. According to the Long Beach Police Department, the victim had parked his semi-truck along the curb and was standing next to the engine compartment after exiting the cab. A second semi-truck rear-ended the parked vehicle, causing it to lurch forward and strike the man, knocking him to the ground and running him over.

Despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The second truck remained at the site and cooperated with police. The identity of the victim has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: While the investigation remains active, authorities stated that speed, distraction, or impairment do not appear to have been factors in the crash. Vehicle positions, road signage, and time-of-day lighting will likely be factors in the analysis.

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the truck driver may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim to recover compensation for funeral costs, loss of support, and other damages.

My condolences go out to the loved ones of the victim during this tragic time.
