Thomasville, AL (May 6, 2025) – A multi-vehicle crash involving a loaded semi-truck killed two people and injured four others Tuesday afternoon on Highway 43 in Thomasville.
Accident Details: According to the Thomasville Police Department, the crash occurred just before noon at the intersection of Highway 43 and South Industrial Park Drive. A semi-truck rear-ended a line of four vehicles that were stopped at a red light on southbound Highway 43.
Ashley Marie Springer McDonald, 37, and Woodie Earl Beck III, 53, died at the scene. Four others were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities say two men were inside the truck at the time: driver Andrii Dmyterko, 45, and passenger Denys Kucher, 31. Dmyterko was arrested and charged with two counts of vehicular manslaughter. The case remains under investigation.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: When a commercial truck hits stopped vehicles at a red light, investigators must identify why the truck did not stop. Was impairment, distraction, or fatigue involved? Did the truck’s brakes malfunction?
Investigators will review the truck’s electronic logging device (ELD), truck maintenance records, dashcam footage, video surveillance from nearby businesses, damage at the scene, and witness statements.
Depending on the findings, McDonald and Beck’s families may be able to sue wrongful death claims. The four injured persons may be able to file personal injury claims.
I extend my condolences to the family and friends of Ashley Marie Springer McDonald and Woodie Earl Beck III during this challenging time. I also wish the injured a fast recovery.
