Newark, DE (April 29, 2025) – A high-speed police pursuit involving a truck ended in a violent crash outside a popular restaurant in Newark Monday night, injuring several people and damaging multiple vehicles.
Incident Details: The crash happened around 8:30 p.m. on Main Street near Taverna Rustic Italian. Authorities say the driver of a truck, fleeing police, lost control and crashed into parked vehicles along the busy street, scattering debris and striking bystanders. One person was hospitalized with serious injuries, while others sustained minor injuries and were treated on-site. Surveillance video captured the truck smashing into several cars before coming to a stop.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: Newark Police confirmed the pursuit was related to an earlier investigation. Officials are now reviewing bodycam and street surveillance footage to determine whether pursuit protocols were followed. The truck driver was taken into custody, and charges are expected pending further investigation.
