Huron, CA (July 31, 2024) – On Highway 269 just south of Huron, Carmen Avila, a 45-year-old resident of Coalinga, lost her life when her vehicle was struck by a northbound Toyota that ran a stop sign.
Accident Details and Ongoing Investigation: According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the accident occurred around 8 a.m. Avila was driving her Hyundai southbound when the driver of a Toyota, failing to stop at a sign, collided with her vehicle’s driver’s side. Avila suffered fatal injuries from the impact and died at the scene. The Toyota driver, who survived the crash, was rushed to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment.
The CHP has confirmed that alcohol appears to have been a contributing factor in the accident.
