Brevard, NC (April 11, 2025) – A high-speed police pursuit involving a tractor-trailer ended in a crash Friday morning in Transylvania County, leaving one law enforcement officer injured and the driver in custody.
Incident Details: The North Carolina Highway Patrol reports that the driver of the semi-truck, identified as Andrew Gamble of Texas, was initially pulled over for speeding on NC 280. Instead of complying, Gamble fled the stop, leading troopers on a chase along US 64 through Brevard and Rosman. During the pursuit, Gamble allegedly struck two patrol vehicles, disabling them, and later collided with a Transylvania County deputy’s vehicle before crashing off the road and into a yard along Pickens Highway. One trooper suffered minor injuries after being sideswiped. Gamble was apprehended after attempting to flee on foot.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: Gamble has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon, hit and run, and driving while impaired. Authorities will review his commercial driving history, test for substances, and examine why he fled from the initial traffic stop. From a civil liability standpoint, the injured officer could pursue a claim for damages. The deliberate nature of the driver’s actions raises the possibility of punitive damages and may expose any affiliated employer to further scrutiny, particularly if they failed in background checks or oversight.
