Texas Man Hospitalized After Fiery Semi-Truck Accident on I-4 at I-275 in Tampa

Tampa, FL (August 27, 2025) – A 61-year-old man from Texas was hospitalized Wednesday afternoon after a fiery semi-truck crash on Interstate 4 at the I-275 junction in Tampa.

Accident Details: According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the semi-truck was traveling westbound on I-4 when the driver suffered a medical emergency near the downtown exit ramp for Ashley Street. The driver lost control of the vehicle, which struck the outside barrier guardrail and a concrete wall before coming to a stop on the overpass above I-275. The semi then caught fire.

The crash caused diesel fuel to spill onto I-275 below, and officials closed both northbound and southbound lanes for several hours due to the fire and compromised structural integrity of the overpass. Lanes reopened after 11 p.m. Wednesday. The driver was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Investigation: FHP is investigating the crash and confirmed that the semi-truck was not carrying cargo at the time of the incident. Authorities are reviewing the medical condition of the driver and roadway safety impacts caused by the crash.

I extend my sympathy to the injured driver and hope for his recovery.
