Suspect Arrested in Santa Cruz Hit-and-Run That Injured Pedestrian

Santa Cruz, CA (August 4, 2025) — A 32-year-old man with a suspended license was arrested Tuesday in connection with a hit-and-run collision that left a pedestrian seriously injured in Santa Cruz, according to local police.

Incident Details:  Authorities say the crash occurred around 8:50 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Highway 1 and River Street. A northbound vehicle struck a 42-year-old pedestrian who was walking in the marked crosswalk. The victim sustained severe but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a nearby trauma center. The driver, later identified as Arturo Guerrero of Watsonville, allegedly fled the scene. Using evidence from witnesses, physical clues, and data from Automatic License Plate Readers, police located Guerrero at his home the next day and arrested him on charges of felony hit-and-run and driving with a suspended license.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: The investigation into the collision is still underway. Authorities are investigating all possible factors that may have contributed to the crash, including road conditions at the time of the incident, taking into account aspects such as lighting, visibility, traffic flow, and any potential hazards or obstructions.

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the injured pedestrian may pursue a personal injury claim for medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering.

I wish the injured pedestrian a full and swift recovery.
