SAN DIEGO, CA (October 20, 2025) — A woman died and several others were injured following a head-on collision Saturday night in Spring Valley, according to the California Highway Patrol. The crash involved a Toyota Camry and a Nissan Rogue and caused major damage to both vehicles.
Accident Details: The collision happened around 8:54 p.m. on Jamacha Road near Darby Street. Investigators said a 48-year-old Spring Valley man was driving east in a Toyota Camry with two passengers when the car crossed the concrete center divider and struck a westbound Nissan Rogue driven by a 50-year-old El Cajon man. A woman was riding as a passenger in the Rogue.
Emergency crews arrived to find both vehicles heavily damaged, with several people trapped inside. Firefighters freed at least two occupants before paramedics began treating the injured.
Everyone involved was taken to nearby hospitals with major injuries. A child who had been riding in the backseat of the Camry was taken to Rady Children’s Hospital as a precaution.
Authorities confirmed that the 50-year-old woman who was a passenger in the Nissan later died at the hospital. Her name will be released by the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office once her family has been notified.
The crash prompted a complete closure of Jamacha Road between Darby Street and nearby intersections for several hours. Traffic in the area was diverted until investigators finished collecting evidence and clearing the wreckage.
Investigation: CHP officials believe alcohol may have played a role in the collision. Officers are conducting toxicology testing and reviewing physical evidence to determine whether the driver of the Camry was impaired.
Captain Monteagudo of the California Highway Patrol stated that impaired driving remains one of the leading causes of fatal crashes and reiterated the department’s commitment to preventing such tragedies through enforcement and education.
Reconstruction specialists are studying impact evidence, roadway markings, and witness statements to confirm how the Camry crossed the divider. Findings from this analysis will clarify what led to the collision and whether criminal charges will follow.
Legal Considerations: When alcohol or drugs contribute to a crash, the outcome can alter many lives in an instant. Families who lose someone in a suspected DUI collision face not only grief but also the strain of medical costs, funeral arrangements, and the uncertainty that follows a sudden loss. California law allows surviving relatives and injured passengers to pursue claims tied to these hardships if an impaired driver is found responsible.
The CHP’s investigation and toxicology results will play a central role in identifying fault and accountability. Once those findings are complete, they can help families understand how the crash occurred and what remedies may be available under state law.
We offer heartfelt condolences to the family of the woman who lost her life and hope for recovery and comfort for those who were injured.
