Wise County, TX (June 16, 2025) — Two young siblings, 16-year-old Sofia Christensen and 13-year-old Nolan Christensen, lost their lives Monday morning when the pickup truck they were in was struck by a semi-truck on US Highway 380, just east of Decatur.
Incident Details: According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the fatal crash occurred around 6:44 a.m. at the intersection of US-380 and Private Road 4011. Preliminary reports indicate that a 1994 Ford F-150 carrying the Christensen children was attempting to cross the highway when it was hit by a 2005 Freightliner towing a trailer.
The impact caused the Freightliner to jackknife and overturn in the median, while the Ford pickup veered off the south shoulder into the grass. Nolan Christensen, seated in the front passenger seat, was pronounced dead at the scene. Sofia Christensen, the driver, was transported to Medical City Denton, where she later succumbed to her injuries. Their younger sister, 12-year-old Ella Christensen, was hospitalized at Cook Children’s Hospital and is expected to recover.
The Freightliner’s driver, identified as 33-year-old Jose Feliz Rodriguez, sustained minor injuries.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: Authorities continue to investigate and will likely focus on the timing and decision-making involved in the Ford F-150’s entry onto the highway. Key elements such as sightlines from the private road, traffic speed on US-380, right of way, driver visibility, highway safety protocols, and whether any signage or signals were present will be crucial in determining liability.
Pending the outcome of the investigation, the Christensen family may pursue a wrongful death claim. This type of claim compensates for funeral costs, loss of companionship, emotional distress, and loss of future earnings. The family can also pursue a personal injury claim to help with Ella’s medical and rehabilitation costs.
