WICHITA, KS (October 9, 2025) — Authorities have identified 82-year-old Sharon Ramsey of Andover as the woman who died following a collision with a semi-truck Wednesday afternoon in east Wichita.
Accident Details: The Wichita Police Department reported that the crash occurred around 1:47 p.m. at the intersection of East Central Avenue and North Goebel Street. Ramsey was driving a 2008 Saturn Vue SUV when her vehicle collided with a semi-truck pulling a trailer driven by a 35-year-old man from Wichita.
Emergency crews arrived quickly and transported Ramsey to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 2:41 p.m. The truck driver was not injured. Photos from the scene showed substantial damage to the SUV and debris scattered across multiple lanes.
Police closed the intersection for several hours to conduct on-site measurements and review skid marks, vehicle positions, and traffic signal timing. Both directions of East Central Avenue were reopened later in the evening.
Investigation: Wichita police are continuing to investigate the sequence of events leading up to the crash. Detectives are evaluating visibility at the intersection, vehicle speeds, and any possible right-of-way violations. The semi and SUV will be inspected for mechanical defects, and nearby surveillance footage is being reviewed to verify traffic light status at the time of impact.
Authorities have not indicated that impairment was suspected for either driver. Findings from the investigation will be forwarded to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office for review once completed.
