Police Identify Woman Killed in Crash with Dump Truck in Oxford, CT, as Shari Sirkin

Oxford, CT (January 8, 2026) – On Friday, January 9, 2026, Connecticut State Police identified Shari Sirkin, 63, as the woman killed in the crash with a dump truck on January 8 in Oxford, CT.

Incident Details: On Thursday, January 8, 2026, around 11 a.m., a crash was reported in Oxford on Route 67 around Perry Lane, near Rich Farm Ice Cream Shop. The crash involved an SUV and a dump truck.

Oxford Fire Department officials reported that the woman, Sirkin, was found unconscious in her SUV and required extrication. The extrication took around 10 minutes. Sirkin was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Firefighters also contained a diesel fuel and hydraulic fluid leak from the dump truck. The Department of Energy and Environmental Management cleaned the fuel spill.

Oxford Fire officials turned the scene over to the Connecticut State Police for further investigation.

Investigation: Connecticut State Police are continuing to investigate the fatal crash on Route 67 near Perry Lane in Oxford involving an SUV and a dump truck. Investigators will likely focus on:

  • Crash reconstruction: Determining how the SUV and dump truck collided, including the point of impact and direction of travel.
  • Right-of-way and lane positioning: Confirming whether either vehicle crossed lanes, turned unexpectedly, or failed to yield.
  • Road and traffic conditions: Evaluating visibility, traffic flow, and any roadway factors that may have contributed.
  • Vehicle evidence: Inspecting damage to both vehicles and documenting debris patterns to help establish the sequence of events.
  • Witness and video review: Gathering witness statements and checking for any nearby surveillance footage.

Together, these steps will help investigators determine what caused the collision and whether any traffic violations or negligence contributed.

Legal Considerations: Crashes involving commercial vehicles like dump trucks often raise serious liability questions, especially when the impact results in fatal injuries. If investigators determine the dump truck driver or another party acted negligently, civil liability may apply. Examples of negligent actions may include failing to maintain a safe speed, drifting from a lane, or failing to exercise due care.

Because this crash involved a dump truck, investigators may also examine whether the driver was working at the time and whether the trucking company played a role through training, supervision, or vehicle maintenance. Commercial vehicle cases can involve additional liability and insurance coverage beyond what is typically available in a standard passenger-car collision.

For Shari Sirkin’s loved ones, this loss is devastating. If the dump truck driver is at fault, a wrongful death claim may help surviving family members seek compensation for medical expenses, funeral and burial costs, and the loss of companionship and support caused by this tragedy.

I am keeping Shari Sirkin’s family and friends in my thoughts as they grieve this unbelievable loss.
