Victorville, CA (May 27, 2025) — A 49-year-old woman, Shareece S. Jones of Victorville, was fatally struck by a suspected drunk driver Tuesday night in the Brentwood neighborhood of Victorville. Authorities have arrested the driver on suspicion of DUI.
Incident Details: The collision occurred around 8:57 p.m. near the intersection of Reno Loop Road and Sorrel Way. Emergency responders from the Victorville Police Department, Victorville Fire Department, and American Medical Response arrived after reports of a vehicle-versus-pedestrian crash. They found that a gold Chevrolet Suburban had struck Jones. Despite medical efforts, she was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
The driver of the Suburban, 50-year-old George Batiste Thenarse of Barstow, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving under the influence. The Victorville Major Accident Investigation Team closed the roadway in both directions for approximately four hours to conduct a detailed investigation.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: Authorities continue conducting a thorough investigation, examining whether excessive speed, driver impairment, and roadway lighting contributed to the fatal outcome. They may also review forensic toxicology, surveillance footage, and witness testimony, which will all play key roles in determining liability.
Depending on the findings of the investigation, Shareece Jones’ family may have the right to file a wrongful death lawsuit seeking damages for funeral expenses, emotional loss, and other economic and non-economic harms.
I extend my condolences to the Jones family and loved ones.
