Shannon King Injured, William Holmes Killed After Series of Violent Incidents Ending in Fatal I-69 Crash

Hopkins County, KY (April 12, 2025) – A woman identified as Shannon King was seriously injured after being struck by a truck driven by a neighbor, who later died in a separate crash on Interstate 69, authorities said.

Incident Details: Around 12:30 p.m., William Holmes reportedly drove at a high rate of speed into King’s yard on West Lake Loop while she was raking leaves. Holmes allegedly ran her over with his vehicle, then continued driving through another neighbor’s yard. He also attempted to run over a man and his child, who were able to escape unharmed. King sustained significant injuries and was airlifted to a trauma center for treatment. Holmes fled the scene and was later involved in a fatal crash on southbound I-69, which shut down the freeway for hours. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: The Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office and Kentucky State Police are investigating the incident, which involved both intentional violence and reckless driving. Authorities will likely examine Holmes’ mental state, potential impairment, and whether prior conflicts contributed to his actions. For King and others affected, this case may lead to civil legal proceedings, including claims for intentional injury or damages related to trauma and medical costs.
