Ann Wyatt Seriously Injured After Semi-Truck Causes Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-70 in Kansas City

Kansas City, KS (October 16, 2025) – An afternoon crash involving a semi-truck and two other vehicles left an 80-year-old woman seriously injured on Thursday along Interstate 70.

Accident Details: The collision occurred shortly after 3:30 p.m. on westbound I-70 near 18th Street. Investigators said a 2022 Kenworth semi-truck, driven by 43-year-old Moti Korde of Kansas City, Missouri, was traveling in the third lane when it made an improper lane change, striking the left rear side of a 2015 Ford Fusion driven by 80-year-old Ann Wyatt of Kansas City, Kansas.

The impact sent Wyatt’s vehicle spinning across several lanes of traffic, where it was struck by a 2008 Dodge Ram 1500, driven by 60-year-old Raymond Hunter of Tonganoxie.

Wyatt sustained serious injuries and was transported to the University of Kansas Medical Center for treatment. Hunter reported pain but was not transported, while Korde was uninjured. Authorities noted that all three drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision.

Investigation: Troopers from the Kansas Highway Patrol are continuing to investigate the sequence of events that led to the crash. The investigation will include:

  • Scene documentation. Investigators will record skid marks, vehicle resting positions, and debris patterns to determine where and how the collision occurred.
  • Driver actions. Officers will review the semi-truck’s lane movement, signaling, and speed to assess whether the lane change was made safely or in violation of traffic laws.
  • Mechanical inspections. Each vehicle will be examined to rule out mechanical failure, such as brake or tire issues, that may have contributed to the incident.
  • Traffic conditions. Investigators will consider whether congestion, weather, or roadway visibility played a role.
  • Electronic data. The semi-truck’s onboard electronic logging device (ELD) or “black box” may offer key data on speed, steering inputs, and braking activity before impact.

Findings from these steps will help reconstruct the collision and determine the contributing factors behind this serious crash.

Legal Considerations: Making an unsafe lane change that causes another vehicle to lose control can constitute negligent driving.

If investigators confirm that the improper maneuver caused the crash, Ann Wyatt may have the right to pursue a personal injury claim. Compensation could include medical expenses, rehabilitation costs, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other losses related to the collision.

My thoughts are with Ann Wyatt during this difficult time. I wish her a fast recovery.
