Semi Hauling Live Turkeys Collides with Pickup Truck in Cumberland County

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, NC (June 25, 2025) – A semi-truck transporting live turkeys collided with a pickup truck near Fayetteville on Wednesday morning, leading to a roadway shutdown and an unusual cleanup effort, according to North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Incident Details: The crash happened around 6:30 a.m. on U.S. Highway 13 near Hayfield Road, just northeast of Fayetteville. Troopers reported that the semi-truck, carrying a load of live turkeys, struck a pickup truck that was attempting to turn left. The impact caused the semi to overturn, releasing dozens of live turkeys onto the roadway. At least one person was injured and taken to a local hospital for evaluation. Crews were dispatched to recover the animals and clear the wreckage.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash, including right-of-way issues and vehicle speed. Officials have not yet confirmed whether citations will be issued. Cleanup efforts took several hours due to the overturned trailer and the need to secure live animals from the roadway.
