Driver Extricated After Semi-Truck Collision on 1-10 in Tonopah

Tonopah, AZ (April 11, 2025) – A collision involving a passenger vehicle and a semi-truck led to major traffic disruptions on Interstate 10 near Tonopah Friday morning, with one person taken to the hospital after being trapped beneath the trailer.

Incident Details: The crash occurred around 7:45 a.m. in the westbound lanes near milepost 100. A sedan became wedged underneath the rear of a semi-truck trailer, prompting a rescue operation. Emergency crews extricated the driver from the vehicle, who was then transported to the hospital. Their condition has not been released. No other injuries were reported. The westbound lanes of I-10 were closed near Wintersburg Road and reopened around 10:30 a.m., according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: The Arizona Department of Public Safety is investigating the crash to determine whether excessive speed, distraction, or failure to yield played a role. Collisions involving semi-trucks often raise questions about commercial vehicle regulations, blind spots, and braking distance. Depending on liability, the injured driver may have grounds for a personal injury claim if negligence is found.
