Quincy, WA (March 26, 2025) – One person was killed Wednesday afternoon when a semi-truck collided with a passenger car at a rural intersection just north of I-90 outside Quincy. The crash closed a stretch of Adams Road North for several hours while authorities investigated.
Accident Details: According to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred at the intersection of Adams Rd N and Road 5-NW. Officials say 81-year-old Ford Hemmann of Quincy was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Impala westbound on Road 5-NW. After stopping at the intersection, Hemmann entered the roadway and was struck by a northbound 2015 Peterbilt semi driven by 32-year-old Isaac Anderson of Colfax.
Hemmann, the only person in the Impala, died at the scene. Anderson was not injured.
Emergency responders closed Adams Rd N between Rd 5-NW and Rd 6-NW to clear the wreckage and allow investigators to examine the scene. The road later reopened after the coroner completed next-of-kin notification and vehicle removal.
Legal Considerations: In rural crashes involving commercial trucks and passenger vehicles, investigators often examine sight lines, speed, signage, and driver decision-making. Intersections without traffic lights can present hazards, especially when large vehicles approach at full speed on rural highways.
In this case, law enforcement will likely assess whether Hemmann had a clear view of oncoming traffic before entering the intersection. Investigators may also review the truck’s speed, dashcam footage, and braking distance to determine if the collision could have been avoided.
Commercial trucks carry a higher responsibility due to their size and potential for harm. Even when not injured, the truck driver’s actions—such as reaction time and adherence to traffic laws—may be reviewed.
Ongoing Investigation: The Grant County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the crash. Vehicle data from the semi-truck may provide insight into speed and braking. Skid marks, vehicle angles, and road surface conditions may also factor into the final analysis.
Authorities have not announced any citations or fault determinations as of Thursday morning.
If the investigation determines negligence on the truck’s part caused the crash, Hemmann’s family may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim.I offer sincere condolences to the family and friends of Ford Hemmann.
