San Francisco, CA (November 25, 2024) – On Monday, November 25, 2024, a devastating rollover crash in San Francisco’s Ingleside neighborhood claimed the lives of two women, 42-year-old Tamya Watson and 35-year-old Nebiet Barham, while leaving four others injured.
Accident Details: The two-vehicle crash, which occurred at Grafton and Jules Avenues shortly after 1:20 a.m., led to the arrest of 21-year-old Jayden Elliott Patrick. Authorities have charged Patrick with 17 counts, including gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, DUI causing injury, and vehicular manslaughter. The San Francisco District Attorney’s Office has also charged him with two counts of murder.
Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that several aspects of this case warrant further examination. The charges against Patrick highlight the seriousness of the case. In addition to the criminal charges, California law allows for wrongful death claims by the families of victims. The families of Watson and Barham would need to prove that Patrick was negligent. Drinking and driving is considered a breach of the duty to drive safely. If they can prove that the intoxication was a direct cause of their loved ones’ deaths, they may be able to recover financially. Compensation in wrongful death claims can include funeral expenses, loss of companionship, and other damages.
The injured survivors may also have grounds for personal injury claims, seeking compensation for medical costs, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
My deepest sympathies go out to the families and loved ones of Tamya Watson and Nebiet Barham. The sudden loss of two lives is profoundly heartbreaking. I hope the injured individuals recover swiftly.
