San Diego, CA (June 21, 2025) – A sedan traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of Interstate 15 near Friars Road collided with several vehicles around 3 p.m., injuring at least three motorists and snarling weekend traffic for nearly three hours while first responders cleared debris.
Incident Details: Caltrans reopened all lanes shortly before 6 p.m. Preliminary reports do not specify how the wrong-way driver entered the freeway or whether alcohol was involved. Victims were transported to Scripps Memorial Hospital; their conditions remain undisclosed.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: Wrong-way crashes often stem from impairment, inadequate ramp signage, or confusion during detours. Investigators will analyze traffic-camera footage, cell-site data, and toxicology results to assign liability. Those hurt should request the CHP MAIT report and track medical progress using the checklist of common California car-accident injuries to document future treatment needs before insurers press for early settlement. If deficient roadway lighting or missing “Do Not Enter” signs contributed, a claim against a public entity may supplement available insurance coverage.
We extend our deepest sympathies to everyone injured in this crash.
