San Diego, California (September 6, 2025) — A 5-year-old girl is fighting for her life after being struck by a suspected drunk driver who veered onto a sidewalk near Liberty Station, according to the San Diego Police Department.
Incident Details: The crash happened just after 4:30 p.m. near 2500 Laning Road. Authorities said the driver, 21-year-old Savannah Monique Taylor, lost control of a BMW 335i, drove onto a sidewalk, and struck the young girl as she rode her scooter. Witnesses reported the vehicle crashed through a courtyard, hit benches, and continued before colliding with a tree. The child was rushed to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Taylor was arrested at the scene on suspicion of DUI.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash. Taylor faces potential felony charges, including DUI causing injury and child endangerment. Prosecutors will review toxicology results and witness statements. From a civil standpoint, the girl’s family may pursue a personal injury claim to seek compensation for medical bills, long-term care, and emotional trauma. In DUI-related crashes, punitive damages may also be available.
My deepest prayers are with the young girl and her family as she fights to recover from this horrific San Diego crash.
