Ramona, California (September 15, 2025) — Two people suffered major injuries Sunday afternoon after a motorcycle collided with an SUV at a busy intersection in eastern San Diego County. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) confirmed that the crash happened around 4:50 p.m. at Rockhouse Road and Highway 67, just outside of Ramona.
Incident Details:
According to CHP investigators, a Honda Pilot driven by a 54-year-old Poway man entered the northbound lanes of Highway 67 from Rockhouse Road. Reports indicate that the SUV came to a stop directly in the path of an oncoming motorcycle. The motorcycle, ridden by a 48-year-old man from Ramona with a 41-year-old woman passenger, struck the left side of the SUV.
The impact threw both riders from the motorcycle. Emergency crews responded quickly, and both victims were transported to the hospital with major injuries. Officials confirmed that both the rider and passenger were wearing helmets at the time of the crash. Their current conditions have not yet been released.
The driver of the Honda Pilot and his 12-year-old passenger sustained only minor injuries in the collision and did not require extended hospitalization.
Investigation and Safety Considerations:
The CHP is leading the investigation and has stated that drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash. Officers are focusing on driver error, noting that “failing to yield when entering the roadway” remains one of the most common causes of severe collisions.
Captain Monteagudo of the CHP emphasized the importance of defensive driving: “A few extra seconds of caution can prevent tragedy. Always wait until it is safe; your safety and the safety of others depends on it.”
Highway 67, a major route through Ramona and eastern San Diego County, is known for heavy weekend traffic and has seen numerous collisions in recent years. CHP has encouraged drivers to be especially cautious at intersections where visibility may be limited.
