Motorcyclist Seriously Injured in Hit-and-Run Crash on Rosecrans Street in San Diego

SAN DIEGO, CA (October 19, 2025) – A 42-year-old motorcyclist was hospitalized with serious injuries Saturday evening after a hit-and-run crash on Rosecrans Street in San Diego’s Roseville-Fleetridge neighborhood, according to the San Diego Police Department.

Accident Details: The crash happened at approximately 6:30 p.m. in the 1400 block of Rosecrans Street, near Fenelon Street. Authorities said the motorcyclist was riding a KTM motorcycle southbound on Rosecrans when another vehicle, also heading south, abruptly turned right onto Fenelon Street. In the process of turning, the vehicle collided with the motorcycle.

The impact caused the motorcyclist to be thrown from the bike, resulting in significant injuries to his knee. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene without stopping to provide aid or information. Emergency responders arrived promptly and transported the motorcyclist to a local hospital for treatment. Officials have not disclosed the extent of his injuries beyond confirming they are serious.

There is currently no description of the suspect vehicle or its driver. The area around Rosecrans and Fenelon is a high-traffic corridor, and law enforcement hopes that area surveillance footage or witnesses may help identify the responsible party.

Investigation: The San Diego Police Department’s traffic division is handling the investigation. Detectives are canvassing the area for possible surveillance footage and speaking with potential witnesses who may have observed the crash or the vehicle fleeing the scene.

Investigators urge anyone with relevant information to contact Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. Calls can remain anonymous. Authorities are particularly interested in dashcam footage from passing vehicles that may have captured the moments before or after the collision.

Legal Considerations: Under California law, leaving the scene of an injury crash is a felony offense. If the hit-and-run driver is identified, they could face serious criminal charges, in addition to being held civilly liable for damages caused by their negligence.

Victims of motorcycle crashes often suffer extensive injuries due to the lack of physical protection. In hit-and-run situations, victims may be able to file a claim through their uninsured motorist coverage, if applicable. Legal action can also seek compensation for medical bills, lost income, pain and suffering, and other damages.

Motorcyclists are particularly vulnerable on busy city streets. Sudden maneuvers by other drivers, especially without signaling or checking blind spots, frequently lead to serious accidents. When those responsible flee the scene, it not only complicates recovery for the injured but also represents a significant violation of public safety laws.

We extend our best wishes for recovery to the injured rider and hope the investigation leads to justice.
