UPDATE – May 30, 2024—I have received an anonymous tip regarding this incident. According to information and belief, Salvador Montelongo was seen at St. Louise Regional Hospital in Gilroy and left shortly before the incident. If the hospital acted negligently in letting Salvador Montelongo leave, a legal case may be brought against it. Further investigation would be necessary.
Gilroy, CA (May 19, 2024)—A tragic traffic accident early in the morning on May 19 resulted in the death of a 32-year-old man near Saint Louise Regional Hospital in Gilroy, police have confirmed. The coroner identified the victim as Salvador Montelongo of Gilroy.
Incident Overview: At around 12:30 a.m., Gilroy police were dispatched to the 9400 block of No Name Uno, close to the hospital, where they discovered Montelongo fatally injured in the street. Despite immediate medical aid provided by a passing nurse from the hospital, he was pronounced dead shortly after the incident. The driver involved in the accident, a juvenile, remained at the scene and cooperated fully with law enforcement officials. Initial assessments by the police indicated that neither drugs nor alcohol were contributing factors in the accident.
Legal Implications: The Gilroy Police Department’s Major Accident Investigations Team (M.A.I.T.) is conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances of the crash. Given the serious nature of the incident and the involvement of a juvenile driver, the investigation will likely explore all aspects of the crash, including speed, road conditions, and compliance with traffic laws. This incident may lead to legal proceedings depending on the outcome of the investigation. The family of Salvador Montelongo could also consider pursuing a wrongful death claim, which could address compensation for funeral expenses, loss of income, and emotional suffering caused by the tragic event.
My thoughts are with the family and friends of Salvador Montelongo during this profoundly difficult time. I hope that the investigation reveals more information about the circumstances of the accident.
