Robert Alan Shires Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash on Florin Road in Sacramento

Sacramento, CA (October 13, 2025) – Forty-two-year-old Robert Alan Shires was killed Sunday night after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in south Sacramento, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office and ABC10.

Accident Details: Deputies said the collision occurred around 8:30 p.m. near the intersection of Florin Road and Power Inn Road. Shires was walking along Florin Road when he was hit by a passing vehicle that fled the scene. Emergency responders found him unresponsive in the roadway and pronounced him dead shortly after their arrival. Witnesses reported seeing a dark-colored sedan speeding away from the area immediately after the crash. The road was closed for several hours while investigators documented evidence and cleared the scene.

Investigation: The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation with assistance from the California Highway Patrol’s Major Accident Investigation Team. Detectives are reviewing nearby surveillance footage, collecting debris, and analyzing vehicle parts left at the scene to identify the suspect vehicle. As of Monday afternoon, no arrests had been made. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the sheriff’s office or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers.

Legal Considerations: Hit-and-run crashes often result in serious criminal and civil consequences for the driver responsible. Families of victims may pursue wrongful death claims once the suspect is identified, seeking compensation for funeral costs, emotional distress, and loss of financial support. Preserving evidence, witness statements, and police reports is essential to establishing accountability and supporting future legal action.

This was a heartbreaking and senseless tragedy for the Sacramento community. I extend my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Robert Alan Shires as they mourn his loss.
