Sen. Sabrina Cervantes Treated for Injuries After Capitol-Area Crash, Releases Negative Drug Test

Sacramento, CA | May 21, 2025 – Following a car crash near the California State Capitol earlier this week, State Senator Sabrina Cervantes sought medical attention and later released toxicology results in response to DUI allegations.

Incident Details: According to officials, the crash occurred on Sunday, May 19, in downtown Sacramento. After the incident, Cervantes went to the hospital, where she was evaluated and provided a urine sample the following day. The drug panel, conducted at 4:27 p.m. on May 20, returned negative results for a range of controlled substances including THC, cocaine, methamphetamines, and opiates.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: Sacramento police initially suspected impairment and collected a separate blood sample on the day of the crash. That sample remains under review at the county’s crime lab. Cervantes shared a medical exam summary indicating no prescription medication and a blood alcohol concentration below 0.01%. She has denied using drugs or alcohol and stated she is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
