Taylorville, IL (January 9, 2026) – Ronald Rockhold, 59, of Decatur, was seriously injured in a crash involving two semi-tractor trailers on Route 48 near Clarksdale on January 9, 2026.
Incident Details: At around 8:54 a.m. on January 9, the Taylorville Fire Department responded to a serious car crash on Route 48 near Clarksdale. The collision involved two semi-tractor trailer trucks.
One person was trapped inside one of the vehicles. Firefighters performed a two-hour extrication to remove the person from the vehicle.
Rockhold was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the truck that struck Rockhold’s truck was identified as Seth Bowman. Bowman was also transported to an area hospital with injuries.
Bowman was cited for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident.
Investigation: Authorities are continuing to investigate the crash involving two semi-tractor trailers on Route 48 near Clarksdale that left Ronald Rockhold seriously injured. Investigators will examine how the collision occurred, including traffic flow, roadway conditions, and whether either truck was traveling too fast for conditions at the time of impact.
Police are expected to review physical evidence from the scene, including vehicle damage, debris patterns, and skid marks, along with witness statements and any available dash camera footage.
Because one driver, Bowman, was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, investigators will also evaluate braking distance, following distance, and whether driver inattention or fatigue played a role.
Legal Considerations: Crashes involving commercial trucks can raise complex liability issues, especially when serious injuries occur. A citation for failure to reduce speed may support a finding of negligence if the investigation confirms that Bowman’s actions caused or contributed to the crash. Depending on the circumstances, liability may also extend to a trucking company if issues involving training, supervision, scheduling, or maintenance are identified.
For Ronald Rockhold, a personal injury claim may help recover compensation for medical expenses, lost income, rehabilitation needs, and pain and suffering related to the crash.
I wish Ronald Rockhold strength and a full recovery as he continues receiving care for his injuries.
