Rolan Tomlison Killed in a Crash with a Semi-Trailer in Lubbock, TX

Lubbock, TX (February 24, 2026) – Rolan Tomlison (45) was killed in a crash with a semi-trailer Tuesday morning on US Highway 62.

Incident Details: According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a crash took place early in the morning on Tuesday, February 24, 2026. Investigators report that a semi-trailer driven by a 74-year-old Lubbock man was traveling southwest on US Highway 62 when it turned into a crossover to turn northeast. When the semi-trailer turned, it stalled in the northeast-bound lanes.

Rolan Tomlison hit the front right of the semi-trailer and became wedged under the rear of the vehicle. Tomlison was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigation: The Texas Department of Public Safety is continuing to investigate the fatal crash on US Highway 62 that claimed the life of Rolan Tomlison. Investigators will focus on how and why the semi-trailer turned into the crossover and stalled in the northeast-bound lanes before the collision occurred.

Authorities will likely examine:

  • Right-of-way and turning procedures—Whether the semi-truck driver ensured the roadway was clear before attempting the turn.
  • Vehicle stall cause—Determining why the semi-trailer stalled and whether mechanical issues, driver error, or load-related problems were involved.
  • Visibility and lighting conditions—Assessing how visible the stalled trailer was to oncoming traffic during early morning hours.
  • Speed and braking evidence—Reviewing skid marks, impact points, and electronic data from both vehicles to evaluate reaction time.
  • Commercial compliance records—Examining maintenance logs, inspection reports, and driver qualifications to determine whether safety regulations were followed.

These findings will help establish whether the stalled semi created a roadway hazard that could have been prevented.

Legal Considerations: Commercial truck drivers have a duty to operate their vehicles safely and avoid obstructing active traffic lanes when possible. If the investigation determines that the semi-trailer driver failed to ensure a safe turn, improperly blocked traffic, or did not take appropriate measures after the vehicle stalled, civil liability may apply.

Because a commercial vehicle was involved, responsibility may extend beyond the individual driver to the trucking company, depending on vehicle maintenance practices, driver training, and compliance with state and federal safety regulations.

If negligence is established, Tomlison’s surviving family members may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim to recover funeral expenses, loss of financial support, and the loss of companionship.

My deepest condolences go out to the family and loved ones of Rolan Tomlison during this tragic and difficult time.
