Apple Valley, CA (May 25, 2024) – Robert Witt, a 68-year-old resident of Apple Valley, lost his life in a motorcycle crash on the morning of Saturday, May 25.
Incident Overview: The accident occurred at approximately 10:27 AM at the intersection of Standing Rock Avenue and Blackfoot Road. Robert Witt was operating a black 2011 Harley Davidson Road Glide westbound on Standing Rock Avenue, a road without a stop sign at this intersection, when his motorcycle collided with a white 2017 Honda Civic. The Civic, driven by 51-year-old Jennifer Garcia of Apple Valley, was crossing from Pine Ridge Avenue—which does have a stop sign—onto Blackfoot Road when the crash happened. The collision was described by sheriff’s officials as the motorcycle “broadsiding” the sedan.
Deputies from the Apple Valley Sheriff’s Station, along with personnel from the Apple Valley Fire Department and American Medical Response, were dispatched to the scene. Despite all efforts by medical personnel, Witt was pronounced dead at the scene. Garcia remained at the site of the accident and cooperated with law enforcement as they began their investigation into the crash.
Legal Implications: This incident is currently under investigation to determine the specifics of how the collision occurred and to ascertain any possible negligence. The fact that the driver of the Civic had a stop sign could be a significant factor in the investigation. Depending on the outcome, there could be legal consequences or the possibility of a wrongful death claim from Witt’s family if negligence is found.
My thoughts are with the family and friends of Robert Witt during this difficult time, and I hope that the investigation will bring clarity and justice.
