Richard Allen Ray Killed in a Sacramento Pedestrian Accident

Sacramento, CA (January 19, 2025) – A tragic incident occurred on the evening of January 19, 2025, when 36-year-old Richard Allen Ray was killed in a pedestrian accident.

Accident Details: Ray was struck and killed by a red Kia Forte on eastbound Highway 50 near 15th Street in Sacramento. The KIA was traveling at 65 mph. The driver allegedly saw something on the road but could not identify it as Ray. The driver was unable to avoid the collision. Ray was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigation: No other vehicles were involved, and no other injuries were reported. Authorities do not believe alcohol or drugs were factors.

Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that several aspects of this case warrant further examination.

  • Driver Behavior: The driver’s actions will be examined to determine if she was distracted or violated any traffic laws.
  • Road Conditions: The driver of the Kia Forte stated she saw something in the road but could not discern what it was, suggesting visibility issues may have contributed. Poor lighting, inadequate signage, or other unsafe roadway conditions could have prevented the driver from recognizing the hazard earlier. If the investigation finds that inadequate lighting, faulty road design, or other issues created unsafe conditions, the municipality responsible may bear liability for failing to keep the roads safe.

Wrongful Death Claim: The family members of Richard Allen Ray may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim if evidence suggests that another party’s negligence played a role in his death. Compensation in such cases can include costs for funeral expenses, lost income, and the emotional toll on loved ones.

Richard Allen Ray’s decision to walk on a highway could be considered negligent, as highways are unsafe for pedestrians. However, his family may still recover compensation if another party is also found to be responsible. The compensation would be reduced according to California’s comparative negligence laws.

My sincerest condolences are with the family and friends of Richard Allen Ray during this difficult time.
