Dooly County, GA (June 17, 2025) — A 52-year-old man from Cochran, Georgia, was tragically killed Tuesday morning in a suspected hit-and-run crash involving a semi-truck on Interstate 75, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
Incident Details: The crash occurred around 6:00 a.m. near mile marker 109, close to the exit for Vienna. Investigators say Richard Alan Dykes was standing outside his vehicle on the shoulder of the southbound lanes when a semi-truck veered out of its lane and struck him. The truck did not stop after the impact and continued traveling southbound.
Troopers believe the suspect vehicle is a semi-truck with damage to its right-side headlight.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: The Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is investigating the crash and asking the public for any video footage or information to help identify the driver. Investigators will likely review dashcam footage, GPS tracking data, witness accounts, and maintenance logs.
Pending the outcome of the investigation, Dykes’ family may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim, which can help address funeral expenses, emotional damages, and the long-term loss of financial support.
My deepest condolences go out to the family and loved ones of Richard Alan Dykes.
