Pedestrian Ricardo Marano Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash in Palm Springs, CA

Palm Springs, CA (January 18, 2026) – Ricardo Marano, 56, was identified as the pedestrian who was killed in a hit-and-run crash on Sunday in Palm Springs.

Incident Details: According to the Palm Springs Police Department, pedestrian Marano was fatally injured around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday in the area of 1011 E. Vista Chino. When officers arrived at the location, they found Marano lying in the eastbound lane of traffic. Marano was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect vehicle, a black 2005 Chevrolet Silverado, was seized by investigators on Tuesday in Thousand Palms. No arrests were immediately reported. The owner of the vehicle has not been identified.

Investigation: The Palm Springs Police Department is continuing to investigate the fatal hit-and-run crash that killed Ricardo Marano near 1011 E. Vista Chino. Investigators will work to determine how Marano was struck and the direction of travel of the vehicle involved, including whether speed, visibility, or driver inattention contributed to the collision.

Police are also expected to review physical evidence from the scene, witness statements, and any available surveillance footage to establish a timeline.

Because the suspected vehicle, a black 2005 Chevrolet Silverado, has been seized, investigators will likely examine it for damage and forensic evidence that can confirm involvement and help identify who was driving at the time.

Legal Considerations: Hit-and-run crashes can involve both criminal consequences and civil liability, but legal options often depend on identifying the responsible driver.

If investigators determine who was driving the Silverado and confirm that driver’s negligence caused the crash, Marano’s family may have grounds for a wrongful death claim to seek compensation for funeral and burial expenses, loss of financial support, and the loss of companionship and care.

Identifying the driver is also critical because it determines what insurance coverage may be available to compensate surviving loved ones.

My thoughts are with the family and loved ones of Ricardo Marano as they mourn this tragic loss.
