Two Teens Killed, Five Injured in Route 55 Crash in Gloucester County

Glassboro, NJ (March 9, 2025) – A multi-vehicle crash on Route 55 northbound near Exit 48 in Gloucester County claimed the lives of two young men on Sunday afternoon. Police identified the victims as Brenden Cary, a current high school student, and 19-year-old Dominic Reyes, a recent graduate of the Delsea Regional School District.

Incident Overview: According to New Jersey State Police (NJSP), the accident occurred at approximately 4:15 p.m. when Cary, driving a Honda passenger vehicle, struck the left rear corner of a Honda CRV traveling just ahead of him in the right lane. The impact caused Cary to lose control, sending his car across the right lane and onto the shoulder, colliding with a disabled Dodge minivan that was stopped on the side of the road.

Three young passengers sustained minor injuries when the force of the crash overturned the minivan. The 36-year-old driver of the minivan was seriously injured and taken to a nearby hospital. A 17-year-old passenger in Cary’s vehicle also sustained serious injuries and succumbed to his injuries on Sunday.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: NJSP continues investigating the events that led to the crash, including speed, road conditions, and driver reaction times. Investigators will assess whether Cary’s initial collision with the CRV was due to distraction, excessive speed, or another factor.

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the injured victims or their families may be able to pursue legal action, including wrongful death and personal injury claims. These claims could help recover medical expenses, funeral costs, lost wages, and emotional distress for those affected.

I offer my condolences to the Reyes and Cary families, and I wish those injured a speedy and complete recovery.
