Port Orange, FL (April 19, 2025) – A utility worker was hospitalized with serious injuries Friday morning after falling from a bucket truck on Nova Road when a car crashed into the boom truck, according to the Port Orange Police Department.
Accident Details: The crash occurred around 8:00 a.m. on Nova Road near Madeline Avenue. Authorities say a vehicle collided with a parked boom truck, causing the worker—who was elevated in the truck’s bucket at the time—to fall onto the roadway.
Emergency responders transported the injured worker to Halifax Hospital in Daytona Beach. The driver of the vehicle involved in the crash was not injured.
Legal Considerations: Incidents involving roadside utility workers often raise safety concerns related to visibility, signage, and driver attention. Investigators will likely assess whether the boom truck was properly positioned and marked and whether the approaching vehicle failed to yield or became distracted prior to the crash.
If the investigation finds the driver was at fault, the injured worker may be entitled to both workers’ compensation and additional civil claims for negligence, depending on the circumstances.
Ongoing Investigation: Port Orange Police are investigating the crash. Anyone with information or who witnessed the collision is urged to contact Traffic Homicide Investigator Carlyton Hambsh at 386-506-5838. Southbound lanes of Nova Road were temporarily closed but have since reopened.
I hope the injured worker receives the care needed for a full recovery.
