Chino, CA (July 10, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred on July 10, 2024, when 79-year-old Shuzhen Liu was struck by a vehicle while walking in the 6500 block of Schaefer Avenue.
Accident Details: Liu sustained serious head injuries as a result of the accident. He was taken to a trauma center, where he unfortunately passed away six days later on Tuesday, July 16.
Investigation: The vehicle driver, identified as 68-year-old Robert Hairston, remained at the scene and has cooperated fully with the ongoing investigation. The incident is still under investigation, and investigators are actively seeking witnesses, surveillance footage, or any additional information related to the collision.
Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that several aspects of this case warrant further examination. First, investigators will examine whether Robert Hairston was driving negligently at the time of the accident. This investigation includes assessing his speed, attention to the road, and whether he adhered to traffic laws. Surveillance footage and witness statements can provide crucial insights into these aspects. Additionally, the crosswalk or pedestrian path condition where Liu was struck will be scrutinized. Poorly marked crosswalks or obstructed pedestrian pathways can contribute to accidents and, if found to be deficient, may result in municipal liability. Depending on the facts of the case, Liu’s family may be able to file a wrongful death lawsuit for compensation for their loss against the negligent party.
My sincerest condolences are with the family and friends of Shuzhen Liu during this difficult time.
