Chula Vista, CA (January 11, 2026) – Authorities identified 70-year-old Ruizhi You as the woman killed in a hit-and-run accident in Chula Vista.
Incident Details: According to the Chula Vista Police Department (CVPD), around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 11, 2026, officers responded to reports of a woman struck by a vehicle near the intersection of North Greensview Drive and Park Meadows Road.
Police and Chula Vista firefighters attempted life-saving measures at the scene, and You was taken to the hospital. Shortly after arriving at the hospital, You was pronounced dead.
The suspect driver reportedly fled the scene. After searching for the suspect, CVPD arrested a woman on Tuesday on suspicion of killing an elderly woman in a hit-and-run collision. The suspect, 46-year-old Monica Armenta, was arrested in connection with the death of You. Armenta was booked into Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility, pending charges of felony hit-and-run and misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter.
Investigation: The CVPD is continuing to investigate the fatal hit-and-run crash near North Greensview Drive and Park Meadows Road that killed Ruizhi You. Investigators will likely focus on:
- Crash reconstruction: Determining how and where You was struck, including the vehicle’s path and point of impact.
- Witness and video evidence: Reviewing surveillance footage, doorbell cameras, and witness statements to confirm the timeline and incident details.
- Suspect identification: Establishing the driver’s involvement and actions before and after fleeing the scene.
- Vehicle evidence: Documenting any damage or forensic evidence connecting the suspect vehicle to the collision.
These findings will help support the criminal case and clarify the full circumstances of the crash.
Legal Considerations: Hit-and-run collisions involving pedestrians can lead to serious criminal penalties and civil liability. With an arrest made and charges including felony hit-and-run and misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter, the criminal case may address punishment. A separate civil claim may help the victim’s family seek compensation.
For Ruizhi You’s loved ones, a wrongful death claim may help surviving family members pursue compensation for medical expenses, funeral and burial costs, and the loss of companionship and support caused by this tragedy.
I extend my heartfelt sympathies to Ruizhi You’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.
